How it all started...
Listening to the voice of God -- Roy Newman was “burdened”, by God, to plant a new non-denominational church on the North Side of Springfield.
Roy met with Pastor Peter J. Wehrly of Wesley United Methodist church and shared with him the vision God had given him and the fact that he knew God’s instructions were to plant a church on the North Side of Springfield.
Pastor Wehrly and the Trustees of Wesley United Methodist Church agreed to share space on Wednesday nights for prayer, praise and Bible study as requested to begin the development of this new church plant.
Continued prayer and consultation with his Pastor, T. Ray McJunkins, led to the sharing of this vision with his home church, Union Baptist Church, on Sunday, April 3, 2005. Pastor Newman shared the gospel message during the a.m. worship service with a message entitled “The Benefits of Obedience”.
A “vision sharing” meeting was held on Wednesday, April 13, 2005, in the fellowship hall of Wesley United Methodist Church; approximately 30 individuals attended. During this vision sharing meeting the church’s name was unveiled - “Fresh Visions Community Church” (FVCC) and several families committed to the ministry and committed to become members of the church that evening. Others agreed to assist the ministry as prayer partners, financially, while still others agreed to help with the music ministry.
On Wednesday, May 4, 2005, the first prayer, praise and Bible study session for FVCC with classes for adults and two youth classes (ages 3-18) was held. God has continued adding to the ministry since May and a 3rd youth class was added on Wednesday nights.
After the conception of FVCC and 3 months of development, FVCC celebrated on Saturday, August 6, 2005, with a pre-launch celebration with a “Friends & Family Community Outreach” event in the parking lot of Wesley. The event was very well attended -- both children and adults enjoyed such events as face painting, a gospel magic show by Twinkles the Clown, the fun-jump house, Tumble Bus, basketball games, cake walks, free food, an FVCC information booth and many other activities were enjoyed by all.
On Sunday, August 7, 2005, in the sanctuary of Wesley over 230 friends, family members and well-wishers attended the first Sunday service of FVCC. Pastor Newman‘s first pastoral message was entitled “A Wonderful Change”.
As this ministry transforms our community, we continue to give thanks and honor Christ – Our Lord!!!
